Saving Money During Tax Season

Have you done your taxes yet? It’s almost the home stretch! For this post as part of the H&R Block campaign, I was asked to make a video sharing how I spend my tax refunds! I split it up three ways, I appreciate EVERY penny and strive to make each one work in my favor.

First, I set aside 25% for savings, that way it can earn interest. Using money to make more money, I like that!

Second, I set aside 25% for a SPLURGE. This is a treat for myself, like a hot stone pedicure or a new pair of my favorite comfy shoes.

Lastly, I use 50% for a “big picture” goal. For example, I’ve been doing a lot of speaking engagements lately and I needed to put together a speaker reel. I’ve always been confident with my presentations, I’m really proud to grow that part of my business. But you know what? When I started compiling footage, I couldn’t use anything because my outfits were awful! My blouses hung crooked, or I wore jeans that did not look flattering, or my dress had wrinkles. Oh, lawd, how I did I let that part slip? So for this year, I’m using 50% of my tax refund to buy some crisp, stylish ensemble clothing pieces that I can keep in my closet and ONLY wear to my gigs.
