In almost a month, we’ll be in New York for my first-ever Manhattan book signings. God, I can hardly wait!! It’s funny, today I was thinking how different it is when you take a vacation with kids.
All my past New York trips have been quite elite. I’ve gone with either my sister or Patrick and we’ve stayed at places like The Hudson, The Waldorf, The W Union Square and Flatotel. That last one was during my Season One America’s Next Top Model fixation. I couldn’t look like a supermodel, but at least I could sleep in the same hotel as one.
OK, now that the kids are coming? We’re staying for $159 a night at The Herald Sqaure Hotel. More bodies means bigger restaurant tickets, more admission fees, extra subway passes, etc. But it’s cool. I want more than anything for the kids to see another part of the country. I want them to take note of the opps out there and think about doing things like traveling or going to college before settling down. Anyway, this hotel is located in the Garment District. And what I love the most about it is that the property was built in 1894 and was the publishing home of the original Life Magazine! No complaints here!
