Tomorrow I will get a call from Raymond at Harper Collins, informing me of the sales number of my book since it’s release one week ago today. It’s scary because that number determines if the book is hit or a flop. I mean nothing is really set, it all has to play out over time, but it is a good way to gauge how it is doing in the market.
Raymond is so funny, he is full of positive energy and always sees the bright side of everything. Before we hung up, I told him how I would pray all night tonight. He replied: “At least you will have very pretty prayer candles!” He is absolutely right and made me laugh, which put me at ease. Even if my book tanks, I know I can make some killa candles!
Actually things are going well. I may not know the sales numbers, I do know that there is a gob of press interest. From large daily papers to all kinds of women’s and craft magazines to popular web sites. I have events booked in San Diego (March), Miami (May) and New York (June). And today I got the flyer for the cruise. I’ll be posting info on that soon. They worked out a great discount for people who book before March 1st!
Most important – Tempe! I’ll be at Changing Hands Bookstore, Thursday February 23, 7pm.
I’ll read a couple essays from my book, we’ll have cake and I’ll share the finished projects from the different chapters. i hope people show up!
Alrighty, now for the SUPER big news. Just heard today that Target AND WalMart have both purchased quantities of my book to test market it in different areas of the country. IF it goes good, they will hopefully reorder for more (or even all) of their stores. I wasn’t able to find out which stores are carrying it, so if you are at your local Target and see it, will you let me know?
I’m so grateful for everyone who has helped me and for all these crafty opportunities. I swear, every night when I go to bed, I send all of you good wishes to have good luck, productive days and fruitful futures. I’m truly doing all this for the love of art and inspiration. how cheesy is that? Lord knows it’s not about the money. We still are a one car family and have yet to get our front lawn revamped!
Quick tangent – It’s strange to imagine our lives any other way but this. Sometimes it feels like the consequences and struggles of trying to live an artful life are what keeps us together and motivated. You can do this stuff too. All you have to do is keep at it, any way possible! Who knows where all this will lead. It is either the real beginning of something more grand than now, or the peak of a very exciting chapter in my life. Regardless, it will make one heck of a scrapbook, that’s for sure!
Well, I’m off to double check our shipments for tomorrow, prep my craft for my TV segment, lay out my clothes, listen to Maya’s scoop on the new boy she has a crush on, and pull a shard of glass out of my foot.
Have an ultra glossy Wednesday!
