San Diego adventures

(Pamela with her picks!)
Today was the first day of the California leg of the Crafty Chica Spread the Sparkle Tour! Doesn’t that sound so Amazing Race? I’m totally making it bigger than it sounds, (AZ and CA are the only legs, so far…) but I can’t help it! We had an excellent day!

We woke up at 4:30 a.m. in Phoenix, and by 11, we were frolicking on Mission Beach in San Diego. Do you know how long it has been since I frolicked on anything? We checked into La Quinta Inn and Suites at 3, and the assistant manager was soooo sweet. He told me they were really happy to be part of the chica excitement, and that he had even checked out my web site.

At that moment, I thought “EEeek!” I was standing before him with beach hair (translation: major fuzzy bob, wide enough to hide a small animal) and sunburned cheeks, my face free of any cosmetic enhancements.

“I look better in pictures,” I joked. “I just came from the beach…” I said, raking my fingers through my wirey locks. I should say “trying” because my fingers got stuck at one point.

He smiled bright, like he didn’t even notice, and said, “Good for you, I hope you had a great time! Good luck tonight!”

I knew then it was going to be a happy night. We had lots of Michaels shoppers and the display had sold so much that the clerks had to spread out the product to fill the space. They told me that as soon as they put it all up a few weeks ago, certain items were gone in ONE day.

“You’re reaching new customers we haven’t had before,” one of them said.

Aside from hanging with all my favorite friends, one of the highlights was a girl and guy who walked in, and the guy saw the display and goes “Crafty Chica? What is that?”

They walked over to see the products and told me how they were into Day of the Dead. The guy bought the Divine Inspiration Empowerment Guardian and I think the girl bought the Inspiration Cards.

Well, I’m going to flop on this comfy bed (kudos to La Quinta, the King Suite rocks!). I’m going to kiss my pillows tonight!

Tomorrow is Los Angeles!

One more cool thing happening tomorrow…OK, you know Ben Harper, the musician? Well his brother, Peter, is an artist and he is going to make a bronze cast of my face for his upcoming art exhibit!!! I’ll post pictures!

  1. That’s so exciting Kathy! You deserve all of the accolades that you are getting! Glad you had a chance to get “Beach head”!

    Love, Violette xoxo

  2. It’s always so cool to see something you came up with sell–actually see someone pull out a wallet and hand over money for your stuff. I’m a soapmaker and I did a lot of art shows and every time someone pulled out money it just shocked me that someone was giving me money for something I made with my own hands.

It’s got to be 1000 times cooler to have it happen on the scale you’re seeing.
