Update on Michaels stores!

Thank you 1,000 times over to those of you who have sent me emails with the updates on the Michaels stores!!! I appreciate it sooo much, it is so helpful!

I am so sorry for those of you who have gone into stores today to find no display yet!

I’m one of them!

Some stores had the display up since Tuesday (yay!), and others have yet to put it up. I called Duncan corporate and was told that EVERY store on this list was sent product on time – about two weeks ago.

The official program runs from August 1-October 31st, so every day of sales opp is crucial. These stores should have it displayed as of today. My crafty cohorts have informed me that they have been told by individual store managers that the product is either in the back stockroom, on a truck waiting to be loaded, not in the computer system yet, etc…

I am vibing up, thinking positive! Hopefully they will get it all displayed very, very, very, very soon.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to politely ask the manager or send an enthusiastic (we are all about peace, love, and glitter!) to Michaels customer service letting them know. I’m really grateful to Michaels for taking the line in 141 of their stores, I’m sure they will do their best to get it out there. I hope so!

Here is the “Crafty Chica” way to voice your concern:
Kill them with kindness! Express that you are ready to go spend money in their store, but can’t because the items you want are not stocked yet. Tell them we’ve all been anxiously awaiting the big reveal. I think if they see how excited and happy we all are they will get excited and happy too and want to help.

And if your local Michaels is not on the list, you can also send a note to Michaels customer service asking for it! Every little bit helps!!

And if your local store DOES have the display and you like what you see, even if you don’t buy anything, let the manager know.

IMHO, this is why it is so important that this line sells well in Michaels:

1. To pave the way for other indie artists to have their own lines.
2. To show the buying power of a different type of crafty consumer.
3. To add diversity to the retail world.

During our sales meetings, I expressed these points with the Michaels team and they all wholeheartedly agreed. I know they are on board with the game plan, it is just a matter of each store to follow in the excitement.

  2. Thanks for the tips! I’ve called my Michael’s twice and they have been very helpful. Was told the other day to call Fri afternoon-couldn’t wait so I called this morning and they said not until Tuesday afternoon or so. We are heading that way so I’m going to stop and talk to someone again!

  3. I’m so excited for you and for the product line! I went to Michael’s a couple of days ago (one that was on the list for Austin) and asked if they had it yet after walking up and down *every* single aisle 😉 The staff people were very helpful. The first woman I asked had no clue, so she got someone else, who also didn’t know, so they finally got the manager. By this point, I’d whipped out the ole iPhone and pulled up your web site. The manager said he recognized the products from their “newsletter” and said he thought they should have them soon. He was very nice, and I expressed (as non-dorkishly as I could) how excited I was to see the products. I’ll be calling back again soon. 🙂

    Checked Michaels at 55 S. McClintock in Tempe. No display yet. They said they do not know when it will go up! I very sweetly reminded them the stores were supposed to have all the product out by August 1st. I am leaving for a few days. I will check again next week when I get back! Can hardly wait!

  5. I know! I called there this morning and they go “Oh, it’s on the truck, we’ll try to get to it by next week…” I called the Chandler store they go “Yup! We put it up and we LOVE it! Come see it!”

    So I’m thinking each store is different.

  6. Kathy, here I am in the L.A. area. The store closest to me is Whittier. I called them today and they said they didn’t have the product up yet (gasp!) but that they hoped to have it up by tomorrow.
    I will call them up again tomorrow and if they don’t have it up, I’ll keep bugging (nicely!) and if they do, I’m ready to spend, spend, spend!

  7. Kathy, I just called another store here in the L.A. area that I go to (actually, Orange County). They said YES! They have it out! I will go tomorrow morning and see if I can take a picture to show you.

  8. here is my story: i got to my local michaels yesterday before they opened. there was about 5 or 6 of us waiting for the doors to open so we could buy our chica treats. doors open, we go in and nothing. the clerks were like “we have it in the backroom, we just havent had time to set it up. we’ll try to get to it by the weekend.”

    i think this is bad business. here are customers who want to spend money in their store on products they have but have not set up even though they were supposed to. they made us feel like our sales did not matter.

    i am very disappointed because i planned a crafty chica craft night with my sisters and cousins. i had given up, but my sister found the display at the chandler store and our party was saved.

    maybe we should start a chica revolt with glittery signs???? i still want to see the display but at this point i’ll probably buy the products online. the good thing about all of this in true chica fashion is that i made new friends while waiting for michaels to open!!!!!

  9. What a fabulous way to start out August – with your product line finally in stores – CONGRATULATIONS! I went to a nearby Michaels (one of two nearby) and chose the correct one; your products were displayed and waiting to be bought! And bought, I did! I won’t go on and on, but, I did take a picture of the display and of what I bought and posted it on my blog (if you want to check it out). I just wanted to say, real quick, I loved it all! Really! The products, the packaging, attention to detail, the uniqueness of it all – it’s fabulous! The two cashier’s that were working both checked out what I bought and loved everything and hadn’t seen it yet. I told them to go spend their $$ right over there (pointing to your display). Again, I just wanted to congratulate you on your products and wish you much success with it!!I know that I’m hooked and hope many, many others will be too!!

  10. I am dropping by via Karen Fayeth’s gushing. Cool stuff. I have been meaning to make dia stuff with clay, you make it look pretty easy. I don’t live near a Michaels anymore, next time I go to Lubbock or Albuquerque i’ll have to check it out. Now I am off to Amazon. Your story is amazing. Peace, love and glitter chica!

  11. I just shot off an email to customer service at Michaels to let them know how unhappy I am about not being able to buy Crafty Chica locally, so then after that, I place an order for several things on Amazon! Gotta get my stuff!
    I’m so thrilled for your dream to come true!

  12. I went only expecting to get the bollywood blue glitter, and I wound up spending 75.00 on crafty chica’s stuff. Everything is really cool and very different from what is out there! I want one of those saint statues but they were already gone. I’ll have to order online. Good job Kathy, you have a winner on your hands!

  14. Thanks for the link to Michael’s customer service. I sent in my request for them to sell your line in KY, IN, and OH. I would drive a couple hours to buy your stuff too! Will the alters and kits be online any time soon? Congratulations, so exciting.
