How to make a mini-mirror curtain

Supplies:

Mini square or round mirrors (various sizes, about 1 inch or smaller)
– Clear fishing wire (strong enough to hold multiple mirrors but thin enough to remain invisible)
– Strong adhesive or glue gun (hot glue)
– Scissors
– Small beads (optional, for added flair)
– Large needle (for threading fishing wire)
– Measuring tape or ruler
– Small wooden dowel or rod (for hanging the curtain)

Directions:

Cut the Fishing Wire
– Decide on the length of your mini-mirror strands. This will depend on where you plan to hang your curtain (e.g., doorway, window, or as a decorative piece). Use a measuring tape or ruler to measure the desired length of fishing wire.
– Cut multiple strands of fishing wire, ensuring they are all the same length.

Prepare the Mirrors
– If your mini mirrors don’t have holes for threading, you will need to glue them directly onto the fishing wire.
– To add strength, glue two mirrors back-to-back, sandwiching the fishing wire in between. You can do this by applying a small dot of strong adhesive or hot glue to the back of one mirror, placing the fishing wire over it, and then pressing a second mirror on top. This way, both sides will reflect light, and the fishing wire will be securely trapped between the two mirrors.
– If your mirrors already have holes, skip the glue and thread the fishing wire through the holes.

Attach the Mirrors to the Fishing Wire
– Space the mirrors evenly along the fishing wire. To create a consistent pattern, you can measure out equal intervals between each mirror, such as every 3 to 5 inches, depending on the desired density of the curtain.
– Secure the mirrors at each interval by gluing them in place as described above. Allow time for the glue to fully dry before moving the strand.

Add Optional Beads
– For added decoration, you can string small beads onto the fishing wire between the mirrors. Simply thread a bead onto the wire, knot it in place, or glue it to stop it from sliding. This will give the curtain a little extra sparkle and weight, helping the strands hang straighter.

Repeat to Create Multiple Strands
– Repeat Steps 1 to 4 until you have enough strands to cover the width of your desired curtain. The number of strands will vary depending on the area you’re covering and how full you want the curtain to appear.

Attach Strands to the Dowel or Rod
– Once you have all your strands ready, tie them onto a wooden dowel or rod, spacing them evenly apart. To ensure they stay in place, you can tie knots around the rod or use a bit of hot glue to secure the fishing wire.
– Trim any excess fishing wire for a neat finish.

Hang Your Curtain
– Attach hooks or strings to the ends of the dowel so you can easily hang it. Find a suitable spot for your mini-mirror curtain, such as a doorway, window, or wall, where it can catch and reflect light.

Final Adjustments
– After hanging the curtain, adjust the strands as necessary to ensure they hang straight and are evenly spaced. If some strands are longer or shorter, trim them to match the rest.

Another option is to make them as garland strands.

Ideas for a mini-mirror curtain

Decorate a Window: Add sparkle and natural light to a room by hanging the mini-mirror strands in front of a window. The mirrors will catch sunlight during the day, casting beautiful reflections. Hang strands with varying heights.

Party Backdrop: Use the mini-mirror curtain as a backdrop for parties, celebrations, or photoshoots. Pair the curtain with string lights!

Liven up a boring area: Display behind a dining table or in the living room to create a light, airy focal point.

Holiday Decorations: Show them off around the Christmas tree, across mantels, or within wreaths.

Trim a bookcase: Create long garland strip and hang on bookshelves, evebn using clips to secure them in place.

This is a super easy project that is short on time, but long on sparkle. There’s so many things you can do with a mini-mirror garland. You can hang these from your tree, front or back porch, or use them to drape over dressers or table tops. Truly a beautiful accent to add to any room in your home. Feeling really funky? How to Make a Mini-Mirror Garland

The process is actually very easy. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

Start off by tying a loop and knot at the top of the strand if you are going to hang them.  Yes, decide how you’ll be displaying the garland. If you plan to make just a one strand garland you can just glue the mirrors back to back all the way down to the other loop. Depending on the type of glue, I would recommend hot glue for this type of quick craft, but you can use any kind of glue just expect the dry time to be different with each type of glue.

An easy and fun craft! People will be asking where you bought it, only to find out you made it! I can see it hanging in doorways or as garland for your New Years Eve party, or maybe even decorating your Christmas tree with it. Oh the possibilities!
