iMac White Screen of Death – a myth!

When my iMac failed over the weekend, all that came up was a white screen. I immediately used my trusty iPhone to Google “iMac and white screen.”

What came up in the search listings just about made my heart stop.

There were forums talking about this problem and how horrible it is. I closed out the screen and rang the Apple store to make an appointment. I could have easily freaked. I was teetering, I was, but I didn’t let myself “go there,” if you know what I mean…

Today at the Apple store while Alan worked on my system (he reinstalled the programs), I asked him about the White Screen of Death on an iMac, and he said it was a myth. People overreacting and such. So I’m here to tell you that if you have an iMac and it goes to a white screen with the apple in the center and doesn’t go to your desktop, not all hope is lost. You probably need to reinstall the system (when you bought your iMac, you should have received the discs). Or if anything, call your local Apple store and make an appointment and the guys at the Genius Bar will do it for you at no charge.

That was the part that gave me goosebumps.

“What do I owe you?” I asked Alan.

“Nothing except telling me to have a nice day!” he replied.

Oh. There is one thing to keep in mind. Apple cancels your appointment after FIVE minutes of being late. I was 10 minutes late and had to reschedule for an hour later. So don’t be late!

Now I’m trying to get back on track. Life is weird when one of your daily elements is temporarily removed. I’m not cursing my computer or anything, but I spent the free time do creative things I wouldn’t have thought of.

Lesson learned: I need to unplug more often!

Thanks for the positive energy!

Peace, love, and glitter!
Kathy 🙂

  1. I have a Macbook and I got a plain white screen… to make a long story short my harddrive died so I had to get another one. I did not have ONE problem with this for the three years I had it… If you hear a “click click click” it means you’re in trouble!
