Poore Brothers chips are my fave. The romance began back during my Duck and Decanter days in the late 1980s and early 1990s (I worked there in a variety of creative capacities). Every day I’d buy a small bag of the PB Jalapeno chips and layer them in my gourmet sandwich – a ritual I still practice to this day.
I’m also a sucker for mole sauce. All my life, whenever I ate red chile, I had a craving for chocolate. When I married Patrick and we ate red chile for the first time together, I told him about it. “You need to try mole!” he said. He then went on to make it and it has become a Murillo specialty dish. That’s one of the reasons I’m so devoted to him. He’s makes great mole!
Knowing this, imagine the gasp that came from my mouth when I came across Poore Brothers® Molé Potato Chips …at the grocery store! It sounds like a stoner’s concoction, doesn’t it? “Hey, dude, let’s dip our potato chips in chocolate and chili, heh-heh…”
If it had been any other brand, I would have scoffed. But it was Poore Brothers! They know their fried papas better than anyone. They are in my trust circle of junk food. I bought a bag. It took a few days before I finally opened it. I needed the setting and mood to be just right. Myself, Patrick and the kids gathered around for the taste test.
Our verdict: It’s a winner!
It sounds like a funky combo – chocolate, red chile and potato chips, but the team at PBs balanced the flavors just right. The chips taste like tangy sweet BBQ with a spicy chaser. Yes, I’ll be buying another bag and layering them in my sandwiches. No, I did not get paid for this endorsement.
Okay, now if someone could come up with lemon-tinged popcorn…
Peace, love, and glitter!
Kathy 🙂
