Fighting Breast Cancer: Orgullosa Together We Are Stronger

This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with P&G Orgullosa Together We Are Stronger and Latina Mom Bloggers. All opinions expressed are my own and based on my personal experiences.

Breast cancer  – actually cancer in general – is serious business in my family. I lost my grandfather and dad to cancer, and my mom and cousin are breast cancer survivors. When I saw this Together We Are Stronger #OrgullosaStrong campaign come up about educating and encouraging women to learn more about prevention, I knew I wanted to share the info here! Not only is there a live chat with an oncologist, but also prizes to entice all of your to do your part in early detection.

First of all, the Spanish word “orgullosa” translates into proud, active, strong! We are all orgullosa, in that we take pride in our lives and make the most of all our opportunities for our families, health, friendship, career, finances, all of it! To live the best life we can, we have to keep our mental and physical health in check. Especially when it comes to being on the look out for cancer.

Cancer terrifies me. I was young when my mom and tata had it, so I don’t really remember much. But seeing my dad go through it, first losing his leg, then it spread u ntil they couldn’t cure it anymore and he passed away. After that, I couldn’t even hear the word without crying and thinking the worst. But then when my cousin found out she had breast cancer, gosh, it was awful. I couldn’t bear to think of it, she is so young. But you know what? She fought long and hard and is now cancer-free. So there is hope. The main key is finding it early. I am so thankful that both my mom and my cousin detected their breast cancer early enough to conquer it and still be with us now. I have other friends with breast cancer and always send lots of prayers that they can get back to normal life as well. Who knows, with my family history, it may be in my destiny too. That’s why this chat is so important, to remind all of us to take a few minutes to check on our health.

Check out these stats from the #OrgullosaStrong research:

Did you know that one U.S. Latina dies of breast cancer every 90 minutes? Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Hispanic women. As part of Orgullosa’s continued commitment to celebrating the strength and inspiration of Latinas, Orgullosa has launched an initiative aimed at mobilizing Latinas to take charge of their health and spread the message that Together We Are Stronger (#OrgullosaStrong).
