Now that October is out of the way, it’s time to take a deep breath and get ready for the December holidays. Wait. How about November? To me, November is the month to focus on family, friends and – prepping for craftiness! I was invited to be a special guest at the #RegaloDeAmorPampers (Gift of Love) Twitter Party and chat about all things crafty! Specifically, about ways to celebrate and preserve family memories. With that comes a lot of photo crafts. Instead of waiting until the last minute, I’m going to give you my 5 tips for memory keeping, then join us at the Twitter party this Wednesday night for even more ideas and tips!
This is a project from my very first book, Making Shadow Boxes and Shrines. This is one of my all-time favorite projects – a Newborn Baby Box. It utilizes photos, plus cute miniatures. See the little folded diapers in there too? Hello, Pampers!
Tip #1: Choose your themes for your projects.
Take a night and look through all your photos. Think of a theme for your craft – do you want a timeline of your child, or a round-up of highlights from the year. Family birthdays, “firsts,” vacations, school, etc. Maybe it isn’t a series of photos, but just one photo. Think about this before you start printing images, it will save you a lot of time.
Tip #2: Look for hi-res photos to use.
If you choose images that are too small and try to enlarge them, they will get pixeled and grainy. You want them to look crisp. So look for images that are at least 500 pixels wide or more.
Tip #3: It’s never too late to take more photos!
I like to give a photo gift of the kids and family to our extended family members. Last year I made Instagram canvases (they were a big hit!). For a couple of the pictures, the day before Christmas, I had the kids stand outside and I snapped different poses with my iPhone.
Tip #4: Color copies!
If you want to use vintage or older photos, do not use the originals. Instead, scan them in and print out copies. You always want to preserve the originals!
Tip #5: Gather your supplies!
Pick up a craft caddy from the store and use it to hold glue sticks, photo corners, scissors, ruler, washi tape, gems, anything you’ll be using to make your photo crafts.
Alrighty, those are my teaser tips. To learn the rest,y ou’ll have to RSVP and join us at the #RegaloDeAmorPampers Twitter party on Wednesday! Check out the prizes…wow!
