Have you seen the new show on Netflix, Stranger Things? All I have to say is that I am obsessed! Also, I must mention that the show has an amazing soundtrack! The songs featured in this 80’s-inspired series only gets better and better as the episodes go on.

If you haven’t seen the show yet, Stranger Things is the story of a young boy who mysteriously vanishes. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl. Think Stand By Me-meets-Goonies-meets-E.T. – irresistible!

Here are my top songs (in all their cheesy ’80s video glory) featured in the first season of Stranger Things!

When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die – Moby (heard in episode 8)

Waiting For A Girl Like You– Foreigner (heard in episode 3)

Hazy Shade of WinterThe Bangles (heard in episode 2)

Africa– Toto (heard in episode 1)

How amazing are all these songs? They are all such classics that add another element to this series. These songs will make you feel very nostalgic as does the show. I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone. But let’s just say as the series continues to get better the songs only becomes more and more great!

Here is a Spotify playlist of all the songs featured in the series!

I really hope you enjoyed all these classic songs as much as I did! It definitely convinced me to start watching the show and I can’t wait to watch the next episode. When a show has a great soundtrack to go along it only makes it that much better. I hope you give Stranger Things a shot because you won’t be disappointed! Here’s to time traveling back to the 1980’s and jamming out!

See you next month!

NOTE FROM KATHY: I loved Will’s round up of Stranger Things so much that I decided to do a list of my favorite jams from Netflix’s other summer throwback series, The Get Down.

Brought to us by one of my all-time favorite storytellers and directors, Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet, Strictly Ballroom), it tells the tale of a group of friends in South Bronx, New York who want nothing but to make musical history in their own way, and at any cost. There’s drama, heartache, action, suspense, and lots and lots of awesome music.

Song medleys!

A strict preacher father!

Forbidden love!

Dance numbers galore!

Metallic confetti!

And I especially LOVE that there are plenty of Latino characters (the two main roles and more!) who contribute much love, light and talent to the story. OMG, I gobbled up the first six episodes and can hardly wait for Netflix to roll out the second half of the season.

Until then, here are some grooves to hold you (and me) over.
