This PYOP Tea bag mugs project is for the heavy drinkers of leafy variety. It’s tall and warm and cozy.
These tea bag mugs come in handy! Not even the flu can keep me from painting! I spent Labor Day weekend, half in bed and half at the art table. I had an idea to make these tea bag mugs (they have a slot to hold the tea bag/strainer) and in between fevers, I made it happen!
Use a green glaze for the background of your lettering (layer it on with a round brush). Let it dry fully, then use a pencil to sketch your phrase.
Use a liner brush to cover your pencil lines. Give it three coats.
Add glaze designs all around, and add color to the handle, three coats so it is solid.
Coat with a clear glaze and fire to cone 06.
You can visit your local paint on pottery store to make your own!
One side says TEAlicious!
And the other, CALM thyself.
Because that’s why we drink hot tea, right? To get soothed and all that?
I also painted the handle and put my usual heart on the inside!
This is mug designed for tea lovers because the mug has a slot at the rim to hold your tea holder in place. One side says TEAlicious and the other says Calm Thyself. Dimensions: 4.75″ x 3.35″ x 5.25″ Has dimensional painted accents as well, fired in my kiln to shiny finish! Food safe. It is dishwasher and microwave safe BUT, to preserve the glazing, I’d hand wash and not use it in the microwave.
Here’s how you can paint your own tea bag mugs:
Visit your local paint on pottery store, check out this website, MyPotteryPlace, to find one in your area. Ask if they can order this style of mug for you, or maybe they will already have it in stock. Then you can go there and paint your own version.
And if you don’t want to go through all that, you can always buy one already made.
Thanks for checking out my tea bag mugs!
