July 4th pillows (With removable embellishments!)

These July 4th pillows are nifty for a number of reasons. Obviously to celebrate Independence day, but also because the embellishments can be easily removed and replaced! This is a cool idea because you can use the same pillows all year and make them look like a whole new design.

This Betty Boop fabric was my inspiration, I found it at a sewing shop by my house. There are lots of super cute July 4th themed fabrics to choose from, that’s the hardest part, nailing down the main image! Pick one that goes with your personality! You can even cut out letters to make words or phrases.

I cut out one of the designs and applied it to a double-sided fabric adhesive sheet. You can see the full tutorial on the Big Lots Latino site (they featured my project!!)

Here’s what it ended up looking like. Because the pillow base had a shaggy texture, I didn’t add puffy paint. And here is a video tutorial of another applique pillow I made with the same technique.

For the other pillow, I simply wrapped it in red sparkle yarn and made a pompom to top it off.

Super easy, right? Once the holiday is over, simply remove the embellishments from these July 4th pillows and save them for next year. Then you can make new designs for the pillows to use all year round!

Don’t forget, if you want to see the full tutorial for these July 4th pillows, check out the Big Lots Latino site!

Happy 4th of July!
