Non-Fired Painted Ceramics

I am all in when it comes to fired ceramics. But I hear from a lot of you who want to try it but don’t have access to a kiln or paint on pottery studio. Here is a nice alternative!

Pebeo Porcelaine 150 paints! The company sent me a collection of their current offerings and I invited my friend Jane to join me in trying them out!

Painting the Pottery / Ceramics

I bought plates and mugs from the dollar store and cleaned and dried them. Then I made sure to stir/shake each bottle of color. I used a liner brush and just kinda dived in.

There is a slight odor. The colors are very thin sheer when applied, but you can let each layer dry and add an extra coat if you want more of an opaque look. I really loved how fluid they are, the colors just glide so easily and smoothly across the surface. I’m excited to use them more.

The paints wash off from the brush with soapy water. Pat dry on a paper towel to dry.

I let the colors dry and then outlined them with the liner paint tubes.

Let dry for 24 hours and then bake for 35 minutes in an oven preheated to 300 degrees.

That gold….love!!

Once your plates are baked and cooled, feel free to use them. The paint is food safe. I’m not sure about the microwave though, I would say no because with any ceramic pieces, you want to make them last.

Protecting Your Non-Fired Pottery / Ceramics

As far as the dishwasher, same. You can do it, but it will make the paint chip or deteriorate eventually. Hand wash to take care of your hard work!

These paints work on ceramics, porcelain, terra cotta, earthenware, but not glass (due to the oven!).
