If you love papercrafting – you’ll appreciate this top fold card technique. I found it on YouTube from Lisa’s Stamp Studio and knew I had to try it ASAP. What I love is it offers a little surprise when it comes to opening the card. And if you are like me and love to use ALL THE SUPPLIES, it will put a big smile on your face. You can also incorporate journaling, ephemera, stickers, small charms, flat-back crystals, your own handmade paper and more.
Above is the video I made (my dog Bootsie made a guest appearance too!), but I’ll also break it down here.
You can make this with blank pre-folded cards or you can use whatever cardstock you have on hand. Try smaller card bases for mini-versions of this.
SUPPLIES for a Top Fold Card
Blank greeting cards
Scissors or paper cutter
Assorted cardstock
Patterned paper
Embellishments or sentiments
Washi tape
Foam dot adhesive
Dry adhesive or a gluestick
Cut two pieces of contrasting cardstock that are about 1/8″ inch smaller than the surface of your blank card. Use a taperunner or gluestick to affix one piece on the front of the card and another inside. I used solid cardstock rather than patterned – we’ll save the latter for the next step.
Cut a piece of double-sided patterned paper into a strip that measures 1/4″ thinner than the base card and the length of the card. Glue it in the center of the inside and then crease it at the top so it creates a flap that can go over the front of the card.
If you want, you can add embellishments inside, like washi tape, more paper or like what I did. Another piece of solid cardstock to go inside the card.
Here is the front of the card, it is already coming together! I added a piece of glittered cardstock at the bottom and I used my paper pinking shears to give a textured edge. At this point, you can add a stamped design on the blank portion under the flap or leave as is. As you can see below, I went so far as to add washi tape!
Then use your foam tape to add a sentiment. The foam will give it a lift to make it stand out!
And inside the card, you can do the same. Keep playing around with the layering and you’ll end up with some fabulous artful cards to give to friends or even to sell.
On a separate note – my publisher has set up a giveaway for my new book. The book comes out in November, but they are starting the giveaway now! We are giving away two gift box ($100 value) grand prizes of these items below and 25 sets of sticker packs! Even if you already pre-ordered you can still enter!

You need to implement more Spanish word stamps, phrases for cards and dies. I don’t find many venders who have them. I make cards and people ask me for cards in spanish
