DIY Cluster Ornaments

Who is in the mood for a brilliant holiday craft tutorial for DIY Cluster Ornaments with Xyron?! I’m so excited to share this DIY tutorial with you.

My assignment was to create holiday magic using the new Xyron Mini Multi-Stick Glue Gun as part of the Holly-Days with Xyron.

I bought a package of 100 shatterproof ornaments that came in bright colors and a variety of styles. My first thought was to make some kind of picture frame but once I unpacked everything, I experimented and came up with the idea of glue the ornaments together to make artful “clusters” – a little twist on tradition is good!

What I love about shatterproof ornaments is they are easy to play with, they are economical and hold up well in storage. Plus they are lightweight, and well, shatterproof, which is perfect for this project because I guarantee you’ll drop one or two while you are crafting.

Xyron’s Mini Multi-Stick Glue Gun is such a crafty must-have, especially during the holiday season. It’s so easy to feed the glue sticks in and focus on your project. It’s compact and take standard size mini-glue sticks. There is also a standard size version.

If you have a crafter in your life, this will make a great Christmas present, it’s super handy and very efficient.

See the clear part? That’s a little container where you feed in the glue sticks. You can open and close it.

The glue gun stands upright with the help of the handle and a small platform at the nozzle, very handy!

Directions:

Sort your ornaments by size and color.

Before you begin to glue anything, play around with the ornaments and see what kind of combos you can create.

Start with a bigger ornament and add your hot glue.

Now add the second ornament and hold in place until glue cools. You can also try setting it down on the table while you grab the next ornament.

Once it is cooled, add the next piece! I used all contrasting colors, but you can use all the same color but with different textures or sizes to make it visually appealing.

Let it cool and decide of you want to add another. You could just keep going and going, it’s a very fun craft!

When you are done, set it aside and then continue making more.

NOTE: The more you make, the better you will get at hiding the hot glue from showing. It doesn’t take a lot to connect two, and make sure to pull off any glue strands.

Now it’s time to hang them on the tree!

I’m in Arizona, so of course I have a cactus tree! It is absolutely necessary for me to have this cactus Christmas tree, if you ask me.

This one I glued four together like a diamond.

Five ornaments glued together to look like a little cascade of sorts. Doing a cluster can add a lot depth to your holiday decor. You are going to LOVE how it looks. If your Christmas tree has a color theme, don’t be shy on trying with single colored balls either. Or get the multi-pack that has the different style and same colored balls. Some are matte and some are shiny. It will look so beautiful.

We are so used to hanging single ornaments all over the tree, but I think it’s nice to shake things up a bit and do something different. These cluster ornaments make a bold statement!

  1. I’m ready for an epic giveaway but I don’t see where to enter. I love how you clustered the balls, so easy to do and very effective. Love your cactus and of course your ornament nails! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
