If you’ve ever finished a candle and been left with a lot of wax residue in the jar, you may be wondering how to get rid of it. There’s actually a really simple way to do it using just hot water.

First, take the jar and fill it with hot water. You want the water to be as hot as possible, but not boiling. Let the jar sit for a few minutes, then use a butter knife or something similar to scrape the wax off the sides of the jar.

Once you’ve removed as much wax as possible, empty out the hot water and rinse the jar with cold water. You may need to repeat the process a few times to get all of the wax off, but it should eventually come off relatively easily.

And that’s it! Once you’ve removed the wax, you can repurpose the jar for something else. You could use it as a vase, for example, or a storage container for small items. Or, if you’re feeling really creative, you could even turn it into a candle holder!

And that’s how you clean an empty candle jar!

Now on to how to cut a vinyl decal!

DIY Halloween Candle LanternYou’ll need to design your decal. If you’re not sure where to start, there are plenty of great design ideas online or in the Cricut Design Space.

Once you have your design, it’s time to cut the vinyl. Load your vinyl into the cutting machine, making sure that the blade is set to the correct depth. Then, simply follow the machine’s instructions to cut out your design.

Now it’s time to apply the decal. Start by peeling away the backing from the vinyl, then place the vinyl on your surface. Use a credit card or other flat object to smooth out any bubbles.

Use multi-surface paint so it will stay on through the season. You can also twist wire around the jars to hang.

Take your glow sticks, snap them right before your event (or trick or treat action) and insert in the jars. Another alternative for your DIY Halloween candle lanterns is to fill them with candy or whatever you want!
