Design Your Image:
– Open Cricut Design Space on your computer or mobile device.
– Create or select your design. For 4″ round coasters, create your design to be 3.”
– Resize the design if necessary to fit your coasters.
Prepare Your Vinyl:
– Place the iron-on vinyl shiny side down.
– Load the mat into the Cricut Joy machine.
Cut the Design:
– In Cricut Design Space, set your material to “Iron-On Vinyl.”
– Make sure to mirror your design before cutting if using words.
– Press the “Go” button in Design Space to start cutting.

Weed the Design:
– Once the cutting is complete, remove the vinyl from the mat.
– Use the weeding tool to remove the excess vinyl, leaving only your design on the backing.
Prepare the Coasters:
– Preheat your iron to the appropriate setting for iron-on vinyl.
– Place the leather coaster on a flat, heat-resistant surface.
Transfer the Design:
– Position the weeded vinyl design on the leather coaster, with the shiny side (carrier sheet) facing up.
– Cover the design with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper to protect it from direct heat.
Apply Heat:
– Using the iron, apply even pressure to the design for the recommended time (usually 25-30 seconds). Make sure to move the iron in small circles to ensure even heat distribution.
– If using an iron, do not use the steam setting.
Cool and Peel:
– Allow the design to cool for a few seconds.
– Carefully peel away the carrier sheet. If the vinyl is not adhering well, reapply heat and press again.
Finishing Touches:
– Inspect the coaster to ensure the design is fully adhered.
– Repeat the process for any additional coasters.
Your decorated leather coasters are now ready to use or gift!

Alternative ways to make these DIY Coasters:
Use my templates and a craft knife to cut through a piece of clear acetate or poster board to make a stencil. Use a round stencil foam tool to pounce fabric paint over the surface. Or freehand using fabric markers.
