Let’s make a DIY Record album junk journal! Use an old album cover to create a journal with mucho personality!
Here’s another result of clearing out my art room – scrap paper! I’ve been seeing a lot of videos popping up on making your own smashbook and/or art journal, junk journal, etc and thought it would be a great way to recycle my extra paper and pictures.
Here’s a video tutorial I made! Scroll down to see new pictures. After I made the video, I ended up making four more books!
SUPPLIES for a DIY record album junk journal
- Album Cover: An old record album cover or any sturdy cardboard cover.
- Decorative Papers: Scrapbook papers, old book pages, magazine cutouts, etc.
- Adhesives: Glue stick, double-sided tape, or decoupage medium.
- Scissors and Craft Knife: For cutting papers.
- Ruler and Pencil: For measuring and marking.
- Embellishments: Stickers, stamps, washi tape, fabric scraps, lace, buttons, etc.
- Protective Covering: Clear contact paper or decoupage sealer (optional).

DIRECTIONS:
For a larger journal, create signatures by grouping pages together and stapling or sewing them through the spine.

Once you have all the signatures, use glue and clips to affix them inside the record album cover.

COVER:
Select and Prepare the Album Cover:
Choose an album cover that you like or that has a sturdy base.
If the cover is glossy, lightly sand it to help the adhesives stick better.
Cut the Cover to Size:
Decide on the size of your junk journal.
Use a ruler and pencil to measure and mark the desired dimensions on the album cover.
Carefully cut the cover using scissors or a craft knife.
Decorate the Cover:
Choose decorative papers and cut them to fit the front and back of the album cover.
Use a glue stick, double-sided tape, or decoupage medium to adhere the decorative papers to the cover.
Smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles with a bone folder or the edge of a ruler.
Add Embellishments:
Decorate the cover with stickers, stamps, washi tape, fabric scraps, lace, buttons, or any other embellishments you like.
Get creative and layer different elements to add texture and interest.

Prepare the Inside:
If you want to cover the inside of the album cover, cut decorative papers to fit and adhere them to the inside using the same method as the outside.
Attach Pages:
If your junk journal will have removable pages, consider using binder rings or a binding mechanism.
For a more permanent journal, you can sew the pages into the cover or use a binding technique of your choice.

Here is my work table showing the process of making these!

Finishing Touches:
-
- Add any final embellishments or details to personalize your junk journal cover.
- Make sure everything is securely adhered and allow any glue or sealer to dry completely.

Bootsie watched in amazement!
