How to make a beaded plant

This project was my first try and I’m pretty. happy with it. There are so many variations for this idea, look up #beadedplant to see them all.

Here is my video tutorial!

My concept was to create “leaves” and here’s how I did it!

Start with a cute pot for your plant!

Materials needed:

Beads: Choose a variety of colors and sizes to mimic plant leaves.
Craft Wire (18 or 24-gauge): Flexible enough for shaping yet sturdy to hold the beads
Wire cutters: Forcutting the craft wire
Pliers:Helpful for bending and shaping wire
Small pot: To “plant” your beaded creation
Floral foam:To anchor the stems in the pot – and fake moss or small rocks to cover the foam.

Instructions to make a beaded plant:

This is for making my version for a 5″ flower pot, there are all kinds of variations!

Prepare the wire stems: Cut a piece of craft wire approximately 14 inches long. Slide one bead in the center, and fold and twist. Now add beads to the two strands, leaving about 2 inches at the end. After placing the beads, bend the wire to form a loop, securing the beads in place.

Make about 12 of these. They can all be identical or you can mix them up like I did.

Shape the leaves: Use pliers to bend the beaded wire into leaf or petal shapes. Twist the ends of the wire together to secure the shape.

Prep the pot: Use hot glue to affix a piece of floral foam inside the flower pot.

Assemble the plant: Insert each leaf one by one into the foam inside the pot. Make sure they are evenly distributed.

Alternative method: Create all the strands and wrap the ends together, like a bouquet and then insert into the foam.

Once all the leaves are in place, add fake moss or small rocks to cover the foam.

Beaded Cactus

Start with 18-gauge green wire, 14″ long. Add beads, leaving one-inch on each side. Bend the ends so the beads don’t slide off. Bend the wire in half to make the base of the cactus. Do the same for the arms of the cactus, but only 8″ long, so when you bend them in half, it is about 4.” Leave along tail of wire to wrap around the cactus base.

Succulent-inspired beaded plant
Create a mini beaded succulent with rich greens, purples, and even frosty white beads. Use rounder petal shapes to mimic echeveria or jade leaves. Cluster multiple “petals” tightly at the base to give that chunky succulent feel. Use a mini terra-cotta pot for a cute desert vibe.

Beaded flower bouquet
Make individual beaded flowers like daisies, roses, or marigolds by creating layered loops of petals around a contrasting bead center. Use green wire for stems and wrap them in floral tape. Arrange them in a tiny vase for a blooming, colorful centerpiece.

More ideas!

Air plant hanging mobile
Skip the pot and attach several beaded “plants” to clear thread or fishing line. Hang them from a hoop, branch, or dowel rod to create a whimsical beaded air plant mobile—perfect for window decor or a boho corner of your studio.

Holiday-themed version
Use red, green, and gold beads to create a poinsettia-inspired beaded plant for Christmas, or orange, black, and purple for a Halloween cactus. Add tiny charms or beads shaped like ornaments, pumpkins, or stars for extra sparkle.

Glow-in-the-dark beaded plant
Use glow-in-the-dark or UV-reactive beads to make a mystical version of the plant that lights up in the dark! It’s great for kids’ rooms, craft shows, or to add a little magical energy to your workspace at night.
