Do you have an excess stash of beads and charms, maybe even lost earrings you just cannot part with? Make DIY beaded tree charms!
Bust out all of those odds and ends and turn them into beautiful pieces of affirmation art that will put a twinkle in your eye! OK that that’s a little dramatic, but you get the gist.
DIY Beaded tree charms
Check out my video for beaded tree charms!
I found a roll of chain and decided to do something beyond the necklace or charm bracelet. My husband has been gardening a lot lately, and I thought some pops of bright colors and textures, and even a little bit of sound would fit nicely among his botanical creations!
The basic elements for this is an anchor for the bottom. I used ceramic ornaments, but you could use anything you like, and of course, remember it will be outside so it should withstand the elements as much as as possible. Here in Phoenix that means it will have lots of sunshine! Unless you hang it inside your house, then anything goes!
Choose a variety of items that are special to you. Have intention. So that every time you look at it, it will remind you of something that makes you happy or maybe just to calm your spirit.
OK, let’s get into it!
Supplies for beaded tree charms:
-
18-gauge jewelry wire (for custom loops or links)
-
Mismatched earrings
-
Beads, milagros, and charms
-
One statement charm or ornament for the bottom (a heart, bird, sun, crystal, etc.)
Directions:

Gather up your goods.
Add jump rings to the items you want to use.
Cut your chain.
Measure and cut (use jewelry wire cutters) your chain to the desired length. Anywhere from 12 to 18 inches works beautifully.

Add your anchor ornament.
Use a jump ring or a wire-wrapped loop to attach a statement piece to the bottom of the chain. This adds weight and gives your charm a focal point.

Create your dangles.
Use jump rings or cut 2–3 inch pieces of 18-gauge wire:
-
Slide a bead or charm onto the wire.
-
Use round-nose pliers (open and close the jump ring front to back, not prying the sides open!) to make a loop at the top and bottom.
-
Connect the top loop to a link on the chain or to another looped charm.
- VARIATION: Separate the chain links and insert a charm as a connecter.

Mix it up! Use:
-
Mismatched earrings as ready-made danglers.
-
Mini milagros.
-
Word charms or beads that spell out meaningful phrases (love, fe, sana, magia, etc.).

Both of the beaded tree charms. I used twine to tie them to the tree branch.
Fill up the chain.
Space your charms evenly along the chain, or cluster them at different intervals for a boho look. You can attach directly to the chain with jump rings or hang them between links using wire.

Optional magic touch.
-
Add a fabric tag with an affirmation or word of power.
-
Dab glitter glue onto beads or charms for sparkle.
-
Tie on a ribbon with a handwritten blessing.
Hang it!
Loop the top link of the chain over a tree branch, a curtain rod, a hook, or even your car rearview mirror!
