XTOOL M2: Set up + beginner’s guide

Here is my overview of the XTOOL M2: Set up + beginner’s guide!

XTool gifted me a machine to try out and share with you, and I loved it so much, I’m now an affiliate content creator!

XTOOL M2: Set up + beginner’s guide

I’m an old school crafty chica. The thought of a laser cutter in my studio never existed until XTool offered ot send me a machine to try out.

My dealbreaker? I didn’t want to have an exhaust tube going out the window. I live in Arizona and it’s sooo hot here. We only open our windows a few months out of the year.

BUT – XTool has a workaround now. They have a desktop air purifier that connects to your machine. No more tube out the window. All you need ot do is change the filter now and then.

So I accepted the machine and my husband helped me put it all together.

Here is my video, showing the unboxing and step-by-step set-up of my XTool M2.

What you need to know:

  • I suggest using a space in your studio to leave the machine set up.
  • You can use the exhaust tube to go out the window or purchase the desktop air filter.
  • The machine is connected to your laptop via a cord (comes with the machine).
  • Download the xTool Studio to your laptop. There are lots of projects and templates to try!
  • The kit comes with supplies to make test projects.
  • The XTool M2 not only does laser cutting and engraves, but also prints in full color!
  • It took me about an hour ot fully set and make a project.
  • Never step away from the machine while it is in use.
  • Turn off when not in use.
  • It can work with all different types of materials!
  • You will smell and see a bit of smoke from inside the machine as it burns. This is normal. Make sure you have the tubing attach to either go out the window or the desktop purifier.

Tubing

This is the air purifier. Simply attach the included tube from the purifier to the machine.

If you do not want to buy the desktop purifier, simply use the black tube that comes with the XTool kit, and feed it out a window when the machine is in use.

Grease it up!

Once your machine is unboxed, add lubricant to the shaft area, on the front and back area of where the cartridges will go. Then slide the front area up and down three times.

Cartridges

The machine comes with two cartridges – one is the laser and the other hold the inkjet color. They are magnetic and simple attach to the main cartridge holder. Then use the cord to attach the two.

Connect to your laptop

Use the provided cord to connect your laptop and download the XTool Studio. First thing, it will have you watch two safety videos.

Set your wood in the machine using the magnetic clips (watch my video), and the camera on top of the machine will display the wood on your studio screen. You can adjust it as needed. Follow along with the provided tutorial.

Follow along with the steps and the machine will spring into action!

Once I made the first project, I cut little hummingbirds on the leftover wood.

I added gold paint, and added chain and charms!

Ideas!

Too many to list. But I want to use this to cut my own designs that I draw Ornaments, charms, even engrave my own designs on wood bangles.

I have more videos to come, so stay tuned!
