Now that the holidays have passed, it’s time to refresh the house. Here’s an easy way to turn that throw blanket into a pillow – in only three easy steps! Fold, cut and sew (or glue). As part of the Big Lots Latino blogger program, I was excited to try this out for my January project! One double-sided fluffy throw is only $18! I’ve seen these types of pillow cases at the department store for triple that amount, so I was excited to make my own!
Here is the display of throws at my local Big Lots. So many to choose from. I decided to go with winter white!
But while I was there, still shopping, I also picked up a two-pack of accent pillows. I figured I could embellish those to match the big pillows!
SUPPLIES:
1 throw, 50×60 inches
Scissors
Sewing machine (or needle and thread, or hot glue)
Pins
The first step is to fold your throw in half lengthwise, then up, so it is folded in quarters. This is the size of the finished pillow case. You’ll get two out of one throw.
OK, now go back to where it is folded once, lengthwise. Cut up the fold.
That side you cut will have raw edges, plus some thin batting. Fold in all the raw edges and pin in place.
Run it through the sewing machine, back stitch on each end. Make triple sure to remove all the pins. They are hard to see because of the fur, so triple check. For reals! I speak from experience!
Whoa, look at that! Simply slip in your pillows and you have some fluffy pillow cases! Nice and furry and warm for the January chill.
To liven up the accent pillows, I simply added dots of dimensional paint. Let dry overnight.
Nice, right? This pillow set was only $12. They look pretty spiffy if you ask me!
And here they are together. My daughter wants these, but so does my husband. Little do they know I made them for my bed!
Don’t forget to visit Big Lots Latino to see what all the other bloggers made too! You will definitely get inspired!
