Valentine peppermint hearts

Valentine peppermint hearts are such a treat for the season!

Here’s a GREAT way to use up leftover mini-candy canes!  Melt them in the oven to make Valentine Peppermint Hearts.

This Valentine peppermint hearts method works best with MINI candy canes.

Supplies for Valentine peppermint hearts:

Mini candy canes

Cookie sheet

Parchment paper

Heart cookie cutter

Sharp knife

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Open the candy canes and place them like a heart on the cookie sheet that is lined with parchment paper.

Bake in the oven for few minutes until they’ve melted into a thin sheet. Remove from oven (wearing mitts!) and quickly use the cookie cutter to cut into them – or use a knife to score them as I did.

I just drew in the shape of a heart. Let cool, then snap away the excess from the cut-out design.

I think it would be fun to try this with other hard candies too, like Jolly Ranchers, hmmm…coming up soon!

Alternative:

Rather than leave them for five minutes in the oven, take them out at 2-1/2 minute so the candy canes are still intact. Then you have open hearts made from candy canes. You can use them to fill with treats, or press over a choclate cookie.
