I absolutely LOVE when I am called upon to work with the local arts scene. Like celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Mesa Arts Center here in Arizona! However, the Mesa Arts Center may be local to me because I live here, but it’s really recognized as an international award-winning arts venue.
A few months back, Sara from ChicksWhoGiveAHoot contacted me to participate in this fun collab with the Mesa Arts Center to celebrate the event. They chose a handful of local social media personalities to each represent a different area of the arts. I was picked to represent THEATRE!
We have a lot to be proud of here in Arizona, our arts scene continues to thrive. And the Mesa Arts Center is a big part of that movement. Owned by the city of Mesa and located in the heart of downtown, it’s the largest comprehensive arts center in the southwestern United States. The architecture alone is stunning, but the Center is also known for the heavy range of offerings from theatre and comedy to art exhibition, concerts and festivals. Apparently they are doing it right, because the Center is now celebrating a decade and is going strong!
At the Mesa Arts Center, you can find:
– Classes: Jewelry, ceramics, drama, glass, visual arts, youth camp, movement, music, printmaking and more.
– Live performances: Stage plays, musicals, concerts.
– Festivals: Dia de Los Muertos, Mesa Arts Festival, Spark!
– Museum and gallery exhibits. Speaking of which…In addition to this MAC theatre promotion I worked on, I was also involved with another part of the MAC 10th anniversary celebration – in the gallery!
I was one of eight artists selected to show a piece in the Chicano State of Mind show at the Mesa Arts Center!
This is my piece called “Aztec Warrior Angel of Love” – she offers a fiery bubble of protection against negativity, and radiates positivity and good energy! I made her from fabric remnants and mixed media elements. I believe we all have our own version of one of these, we just need to honor her and let her do her work, while we do ours! It was pretty cool to be a part of this show, there are a lot of other great pieces from other local Chicano artists! Make sure to stop by when you visit MAC!
And back to the theatre portion – MAC is celebrating YOUR creative spark and interests too! Discover what’s new and be a part of the fun: see unforgettable performances, meet remarkable special guests, and get to know all the things Mesa Arts Center has to offer. It wouldn’t be a celebration without you!

Are you wondering about my costume for this photo shoot? I went to the MAC for a morning makeover, where they had a team dress me and, do my hair and make up. Didn’t they do a great job?
