DIY Flower Lights

How to make DIY flower lights! This is a really fun project that is perfect for patio parties, table displays, or just to give your room a fantasy flair! You can use these on any kind of silk flowers and customize the look to your liking. I made these years back for a segment I did for HGTV. It was a great DIY then and it still holds up years later.

This flower strand is nice to use hung up or on a table scape. I know they sell these now, but what makes this better is you can customize the flowers how ever you want! Check out the dollar store for the supplies!

Types of mini-lights

There are all sorts of mini-lights available on the market these days. Everything from traditional Christmas lights to LED lights and even solar-powered lights. So, what are the different types of mini-lights and what are their benefits?

Traditional Christmas lights are the most common type of mini-lights. They are usually very affordable and easy to find. Plus, they give your home a classic lit look. However, they can be a bit of a hassle to deal with because they require a lot of cords and can be quite messy.

And – pay attention to the color of the cord. These usually come in green or white.

LED lights are becoming more and more popular for several reasons. They use less energy than traditional lights, so they save you money on your electric bill. They also last much longer than traditional lights, so you don’t have to replace them as often. And, they are much safer because they don’t produce heat like traditional lights do.

Solar-powered mini-lights are a great option if you want to save energy and money. They are powered by the sun, so you don’t have to worry about your electric bill. And, they are very easy to install because you don’t need to plug them in. Just place them in a sunny spot and let the sun do its work.

Supplies for DIY flower lights:

silk flowers

1 light string strand of 50 or less.
Silk flowers
Hot glue

Remove the flowers from the stems. Start with one flower at a time and take it apart, but keep all the pedals together in proper order.

Now snip the holes at the bottom of the leaves and pedals, just big enough to slip over the casing of the light bulb.

Hot glue the leaves, and then the pedals to the plastic casing, not on the glass bulb. Basically what you are doing is putting the flower back together over the bulb, exactly as it was.

Once the flower is rebuilt over the bulb’s casing, add a hit of hot glue inside the inner pedal to the plastic.

Glue on crystals to the pedals if desired.

Continue until they are all done!

NOTE: Always unplug your lights when not in use! You can also use battery-operated light strings. For a really cool look – use the battery-operated strand and insert the whole floral light strand inside a large glass vase!
